Nader tot U
The first movement of Nader tot U, Bekentenis, was written in 1990 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Nieuw Ensemble. The other two songs,Dagsluiting and Herkenning were written in 1992, commissioned through the generosity of the Canada Council. Text is from Gerard Reve's marvelous book,Nader to U, which I first read in his original German text, Naeher zu Dir, Reve's own translation and adaptation of the Dutch. The songs are dedicated to the Nieuw Ensemble, their conductor, Ed Spanjaard, and their Artistic Director, Joel Bons.
