Elsewhereless (Prelude, Scene 4)
Elsewhereless (1998) is a chamber opera by with music Rodney Sharman and libretto and direction by Atom Egoyan. The orchestral introduction to scene 4 of was begun the day of Toru Takemitsu's death in 1996 and is in some ways an homage to his music. In the opera, the music accompanies a series of projections of nineteenth Century "stereopticon" slides of colonial Africa. A Canadian diplomat is viewing these as his houseboy enters to ask for a letter of recommendation to go elsewhere, to a Canadian university.
The adaptation of this music for Aventa was made in summer, 2011 at the request of Bill Linwood and is dedicated to Aventa’s concertmaster, Müge Büyükçelen.
